Cutting Lemons?

The movie “A Bronx Tale” is a DeNiro classic. One scene in the movie is with the young lead that goes by “C”. C is being schooled by an older “father-like” figure before he goes on a date with a young woman. The older gentleman tells C to test her to see if she is one of the ‘great ones’. When C arrives to pick up the lady he gets out of the car, locks his door and walks over to her side to let her in (obviously this is before automatic locks). As he walks back to his door, if she is one of the ‘great ones’, she will reach over to unlock his door. In the movie, she was one of the great ones… I myself have passed this test on several occasions unless I purposely wanted to fail.

So what is our test for men? Are they capable of passing any test to win our hearts? Or is it virtually impossible to pass a test with women because we constantly change the rules?

I have been working from home more since my due date is approaching and trekking to the city is just too much. Therefore, the other morning I came downstairs to make my breakfast before I logged in. I turned on water for tea and started to scramble some eggs. While standing over the sink I noticed Mr. Wilson had tea and in his cup were a tea bag and a lemon. Well my mind started racing since I knew we were running low on cut lemons… I bet that was the last lemon, the least he could do is cut lemons so I don’t have too, this is just ridiculous, I have to do everything even cut lemons (mind you this is all in my head). Well ladies, I went to the refrigerator prepared to cut lemons and realized he had cut a lemon, placed the pieces in a plastic zip lock bag, and even put the baggy in the fruit section.

So the lesson is, he passed a test that he was not even aware of and I failed the test that I created. I just started laughing to myself because I realized I, at times (believe it or not), have standards I cannot even meet. I immediately went to my computer and sent Mr. Wilson an email telling him how great of a husband he is. Later I told him the story and he just laughed.

So ladies… look at the small things he does. You may be surprised that your significant other may be cutting lemons for you !!

Size 2 ?

Early in my pregnancy, one of the hardest things was gaining weight. I no longer fit into my size 2’s and size 4 was no longer my fallback. The trouble was, even size 6’s were not even an option. I felt defeated… As vain as it sounds I am sure most women struggle with this issue.

Mr. Wilson (again, being near perfect) always told me that I was beautiful. He only sees the mother of his child that is a true blessing. So, I went to the book of Psalms and read, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. I reminded myself of the true blessing and privilege it is to carry a child. With this gift, who needs a size 2! So today, I embrace my curves and tell my little M&M she is already making her mommy a better person!

PS> I do plan to lose my baby weight!

Seeing Stripes?

Often time’s life goes by like a blur. You are running from appointment to appointment, on the train, on a plane, in your car, and you never really have a chance to smell the roses. You look around and realize you cannot remember the last time you actually saw a rose let alone smelled one. Your home becomes the common stomping ground for sleep, changing clothes and getting on with “life”. You begin to feel like your life is one big state of confusion; everything is blurry and you are seeing stripes!

Well folks, I am blurred with excitement but the picture is starting to get clearer everyday. Mr. Wilson and my girlfriend painted the baby’s room last Saturday and it is gorgeous! The main wall is striped with yellow, green and white. So every morning I go into her room and remind her that we are blessed. For the first time the stripes have made the world makes sense.

Now my optimism may be surprising to those that know me actually, Mr. Wilson may agree that pregnancy has made me nicer (I pray for the old Mrs. Wilson). However, truly, my joyful spirit is the excitement of this new life. I guess the saying motherhood changes you in my case may be a good thing.

So wake up, enjoy life, and find your stripes… the world may start to make some sense!

Motherhood?

Life has a way of moving along quickly even when you think you are prepared. As a little girl, I do not remember pondering motherhood and my version of adulthood seemed to differ from lots of girls. The one thing I wanted was independence … to be free… to live my life. I believe I was prepared to conquer all and now comes the challenge of my life MOTHERHOOD!!!

I know I have not written in a while so the last time I wrote Mr. Wilson and I just purchased our new home. This has kept us very busy along with my job; which gets so crazy at the end of the year with nonstop travel but apparently, we made time to create a new addition to the Wilson household. I am very blessed, excited, overjoyed to announce we will be proud parents of a baby girl! I kindly refer to her as M&M or mini-mom because I pray she is an exact replica of me.

Stay tuned for the joys of motherhood and be happy you missed most of my melodrama of being pregnant but those of you who know me understand there is a lot more drama to come.
